Dr. Stephanie E. Tedford, PhD is a neuropharmacologist with experience in a variety of academic, industry and legal settings. Dr. Tedford received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Neuroscience from Washington State University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacology from Rush University. She graduated from Rush University with recognition and was awarded the Dean’s Service Award and Paul E. Carson, M.D. Award for Excellence in Pharmacology. Insys Therapuetics Inc. Executives Receive Hefty Sentences for Overprescription of Opioid Drug
Subsys is an opioid painkiller, 100x the potency of heroin, that is prescribed in end of life cancer patients. The creators, Insys Therapuetics, has been under scrutiny for their contribution to the current opioid epidemic as key executives have been found guilty of orchestrating a scheme of bribes and financial kickbacks to doctors who prescribed Subsys to patients who didn't need the painkiller. Insys founder John Kapoor, was recently convicted of crimes tied to the painkillers and sentenced to 5½ years in prison. |
